A Little Bag to Give Away...

Hey lovelies, lately, some of you will have seen I went all O.K. Corall on the company Zatchels on Twitter and Facebook after they asked me to work on a project with them (which I did) in exchange for one of their bags... You see, instead of fulfilling their end of things, they basically used myself (a blogger) to help stir up some ground support - and then ignored me for three months. It was crap actually, and after being SUPER patient/polite for weeks, emailing AND waiting to be phoned back, I took the drastic measure of calling them out, publicly, on treating me like crap... It WAS drastic too, something I didn't take lightly as I knew I could come across as really greedy/entitled and it was also a "move" that could certainly alienate some of you.

Now, one of the things I pride myself on in my blogging is my transparent, friendly relationships with all you who read my blog - and those brands/retailers I might sometimes work with. And I think I'm pretty upfront about it all... Recently, Appliances Online were kind enough to offer me a £50 ASOS voucher to give away and for my participation (and the back link) - they would send me a £30 voucher... Well - hundreds of you stopped by - and you'll have seen I gave away that £30 voucher as well. That's how I try and roll here. For me, mentioning Appliances Online on my blog was no issue, if it enabled one of you (in this case Treacle Tart) the opportunity to spend £80 at Asos! I mean, AMAZING. From my end, giving away the £30 was a no-brainer - I didn't want to benefit from something which is completely irrelevant to my blog content. (I just want to add that while that's how I run things on my blog, I completely appreciate and respect that other blogs may run differently to this - each to our own, yo!).

In any case, I don't want to dwell on what a horrid experience I had dealing with Zatchels (no one likes being ignored, huh!). I GET that things don't always work out, but in life, as well as here on this blog - I call people out when I'm treated like shit... Needless to say, I own two bags from the brand (that I bought during their birthday sale and completely LOVE), but I would never deal with them or buy from them again (although maybe I'd buy something second-hand from ebay!)... As soon as Zatchels FINALLY acknowledged me, post Twitter shaming, I announced I would give away whatever they sent through... You see this little bag is complete bad Karma for me now - so in passing this item on to one of you - I find a kind of peace from this experience, and one of you gains something positive from it... That works for me.

This is the bag.

It's a little leather Barrel Bag, YO!

All you have to do to win this tiny little item (its 16.5cm x 16.5cm x 10.5cm) is leave a comment telling me what bag YOU'RE carrying around today. You can comment every day until Friday 23rd August at Noon GMT. I'll announce the winner the following week (after the Bank Holiday) and then post this baby out. Just one comment each day, please lovelies!

Something positive from something negative... I like that. x.

(To any of my readers I might have upset/pissed off during my whole Wyatt Earp moment with Zatchels, I apologise. I am 100% happy to elaborate with you (via email) about what I tried to do, to resolve this privately, if you need. Just email me... xxx)

  1. Hi Em, I'm not entering as I think I've won quite enough here lately :) Just wanted to say I think you were 100% justified in what you did, and I hope you're not letting daft criticism get you down. Giving away the bag is a great end to the story!

  2. Blimey, what a carry-on! I think you were absolutely right to call them out. They reneged on their deal. I'm not carrying a bag today. I've been helping my hubby fit a new curtain rail today. It's been FREEZING so I had my dressing gown on over my clothes, which came in handy for storing endless screws & screwdrivers in to pass to the mister up the ladder. Oh, the glamour! x x

  3. What shocking treatment / communication!
I'm not carrying around a bag today as I'm stuck in bed, but the one I'm currently using is a satchel from River Island. The bottom half is navy and white striped fabric, the top half is a cream faux leather, and the straps are tan with silver buckles. It's gorgeous!

  4. My handbag at the moment is a blue floral satchel with brass buckles. My husband bought it for me for Christmas and it has travelled from Melbourne to Cape Town where we went on holiday and back again! It's big enough to stash everything that you need for the day and stylish enough to take out for coffee...I love it!

  10. Hey Em,

I think you've handled the whole situation with Zatchels extremely well, and sometimes you just have to go public with problems to get them resolved. It sucks actually, but that's just the way some companies are! The only reason I ever got a Twitter account was because of a similar situation!

Anyway, today I have a small Animal bag that I am carrying around. Small, but with lots of compartments for my purse, make up bag, umbrella, hairbrush and camera! x

I've been carrying a trusty Kipling cross body bag for the last few days. My dad bought gave me my Kipling bag for Christmas, the year before he died, and it's coming up to the two year anniversary, so he's much in my thoughts at the moment.
